Each year, high school students learn about law and government during the Rule of Law program. Judges, elected leaders and law enforcement officials navigate students through activities and discussions focused on legal principles and government operations.
The program is designed to broaden understanding about the rule of law. Judge Vanessa Jones of the Chesterfield Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court and Dr. Lynne Bland of Chesterfield County Public Schools organize the program for students from Chesterfield County’s 11 high schools and Colonial Heights High.
The innovative program includes remarks by local officials, a mock trial (with students sitting in for the Virginia Supreme Court) and small group discussions among students, judges and lawyers.
